About

Heather Douglas | Counselor in Charlotte North CarolinaI am a native Charlottean who has been practicing clinical social work since 1998. I have varied experience working with diverse individuals and families, each experience enhancing and broadening my scope of knowledge. I began my interest in maternal mental health while working in the neonatal intensive care unit, providing postpartum support to women and their families to address grief, loss and the challenges of this life transition. This work sparked within me a passion for working with mothers through pregnancy and postpartum and beyond. As a single mother by choice, I chose to create a non – traditional family adding to my passion to assist mothers and parents on their journey towards creating and maintain a healthy family.

I have extensive experience in community mental health and private practice settings. I have expertise in crisis intervention through being in leadership roles with the Mecklenburg Mobile Crisis team for 7 years. I then took a few years to teach clinical practice skills to students at UNC Charlotte in the School of Social Work. During this time I also provided adoption home studies and post-adoption placement for families adopting both domestically and internationally.

I truly enjoy assisting people through times of crisis and transition, especially young adults on their life’s journey, as these times are filled with a growth of self and new beginnings. I work with individuals throughout the lifespan to meet their highest potential.  I  value each individual’s resilience and capacity to grow. You are already whole, just in need of some support to help you uncover your own strength and intuition to stand in your inner-power.
